Upper School
Leadership and Purpose
The middle school years challenge students to think more deeply, lead with confidence, and take personal ownership of their learning. Through a rigorous academic program, students expand their knowledge, strengthen critical thinking skills, and apply what they learn to increasingly complex ideas and real-world experiences. Guided by dedicated teachers and grounded in Catholic values, OMC graduates are prepared to excel in high school while leading with integrity, compassion, and purpose.
OMC’s Upper School serves grades 5-8.
Upper School Program
Learn more about OMC’s academic program for Grades 5–8 and how we foster independent learning. OMC follows the Archdiocese of Philadelphia curriculum, providing a strong foundation for every child.
Math
Students expand their mathematical knowledge through increasingly advanced study of fractions, algebraic thinking, geometry, proportional reasoning, functions, and data analysis. As they develop abstract reasoning and solve multi-step problems, they are prepared for the rigor of high school mathematics. Honors Math is available for students who qualify.
ELA
Students explore a diverse range of literature while sharpening their ability to analyze complex texts, construct thoughtful arguments, and express their ideas effectively. Through discussion, research, and evidence-based and creative writing, they learn to think critically, write persuasively, and communicate with clarity and confidence.
Religion
Students gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the beliefs, traditions, sacraments, and values of the Catholic faith. Instruction emphasizes respect, discussion, service, and reflection on spiritual ideas, as well as using personal experiences to build on students’ faith. Students attend monthly Mass and are paired up with lower school students as prayer partners.
Spanish
Students engage a faster paced curriculum, including more complex grammatical structures. Instruction expands to include the history, culture, and evolution of the Spanish language around the globe.
Music
Students deepen their musicianship through music reading, theory, and performance, including singing, instruments, and ensemble work. Instruction also includes analyzing music from different cultures and historical periods, understanding notation and harmony, and exploring music careers and composition. Advanced Band is available to those who qualify.
Science
Students grow to understand the physical and natural sciences through laboratory investigations, experimentation, and scientific inquiry. Topics include astronomy, chemistry, Earth science, geology, weather systems, and environmental science, preparing students to think critically and solve complex problems.
Social Studies
Students explore world civilizations, geography, government, and American history through the people, events, and ideas that have shaped our world. From the Ancient Mayans and Romans to the Civil War, the World Wars, and the Civil Rights Movement, students develop historical perspective, civic understanding, and critical thinking skills. The curriculum also explores sustainability and global awareness through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
STREAM
Students visit our Innovation Lab twice each week for immersive, project-based learning in design thinking, engineering, robotics, coding, and digital responsibility.
Art
Students refine their artistic techniques while exploring advanced concepts such as balance, proportion, color theory, and composition. Through independent creative projects, they develop artistic confidence, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for visual expression.
Physical Education
Students develop strength, endurance, coordination, and teamwork through a variety of individual and team activities. Physical education encourages leadership, resilience, and personal responsibility while reinforcing the importance of lifelong fitness and healthy decision-making.
Learning Support
As students prepare for the increased independence of high school, interventions and support services help ensure they have the tools to succeed. OMC offers a variety of academic support services to help students strengthen skills, build confidence, and achieve their individual potential.
Many specialized services are provided in-house in partnership with trusted educational organizations, including CORA Services and Catapult Learning.

Upper School is designed to prepare students for a successful transition to high school. Through academic preparation, personalized guidance, and meaningful traditions, students leave OMC ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead with confidence.

Academic Readiness
Students receive High School Entrance Exam preparation while building the organizational, study, and critical thinking skills needed for success in high school and beyond.
Exploring High School
Seventh graders participate in High School Visitation Day, and OMC’s annual High School Fair introduces students and families to many of the region’s leading Catholic, independent, and public high schools.
Reflection & Celebration
The eighth-grade retreat, prayer service, and class trip provide opportunities for students to reflect on their time at OMC, celebrate their accomplishments, strengthen lifelong friendships, and prepare for the next chapter.
